Welcome to the new VerseFirst website! Maybe you got here through connecting with some of our verse/image posts, maybe someone sent you a link, maybe you just found us on a random internet search (at lunchtime, of course):  however you got here, we’re glad you’ve arrived! You’ve landed in a creative hub that’s designed to help you explore ‘Bible stuff’, to get inspired and to get talking. You’ll find others doing the very same thing right now.

So why is the Bible at the heart of VerseFirst? Well, we believe the Bible is for everyone. It’s for your next door neighbour. It’s for your best friend. It’s for you.

The Bible speaks across divides, it cuts through the things that separate, spoil, and sadden human hearts and lives. It has no favourites, it reaches out to everyone. It’s not just for the rich, the religious, the university educated or the experts who know about Bible, Faith and Church things. It doesn’t recognise social status and it definitely doesn’t care how many followers you have on Twitter (btw, how many DO you have?)!

OK, there may well be a bit of a gap in time, culture, geography and language for our 21^st century understanding. But the Bible is full of stories about people, people who had hopes, dreams, and a whole heap of flaws and questions – just like us. Struggling to understand the God, life, happiness and pain, all that stuff that we sometimes squash down in our deepest being. It’s an age old ache, not a 21^st Century phenomenon. And us humans have never really quite gotten to the bottom of it.

Now we know for many the Bible seems like an old, dusty, boring book that sits on a forgotten bookshelf in a dark corner of your house (that is, if you even own one). So we dreamt up VerseFirst to get you started on an adventure with this strange, mysterious, misunderstood book.

It’s not just about ‘happy clappy’ motivational verses that you can stick on a meme or on your fridge: there’s some challenging bits in there, and some parts that are just outright confusing! We’re not here to tell you how to feel about the Bible – it’s yours to experience for yourself. Oh, and there’s no rule that says we have to agree on every aspect of what it means and how we live it out. We’re here to be a spark that gets you talking, thinking and exploring.
