Christmas is not just the story of a baby being born.
It’s the start of something, a revolution, a movement that will transform history.
It is the dawning of a new hope, a new light.
The future doesn’t depend on technology, weapons or human ideas. But on a baby – Jesus. The light of the world.
Today that light shines out through acts of kindness, words of peace, and communities of hope…
And we can be part of it.
The world is going through the mill at the moment, and has been for some time. Turn on the TV, scroll through your Facebook feed, glance over the front page of ANY newspaper – and it’s chock-a-block with bad news. Trump this. Brexit that. The atrocities in Syria. Hate crimes. Terror attacks. Corrupt governments. Our poor planet’s pollution levels… the list is endless. Fear mongering click-bait headlines seem to be detailing humanity’s worst side.
So here at VerseFirst we thought we’d look at things through the lens of light this Christmas season. Because well, we could all use an injection of hope.
Despite the media’s best efforts to convince us otherwise, there are tonnes of kind-hearted wonderful human beings out there. People that work hard to make the world a better place, who show kindness without reason and are passionate about seeing real change. People that put selflessness above selfishness. Compassion over indifference. Togetherness over division.
And we’re all invited to live like this.
‘Clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony‘ (Colossians 3:12-14 NIV)
Throughout December the VerseFirst feed will be dominated by verses shedding some wisdom on love, light and how we can make the world around us a better place. Plus, there’ll be some epic blog posts from guest writers and a bunch of articles, quotes and videos we think you’ll find encouraging, inspiring and perhaps a little challenging.
If you have any pictures, verse artwork, stories or videos then share them with us by tagging @versefirst on Instagram or Facebook, by using the #lightrevolution hashtag, or dropping us a line at hello@versefirst.com. We’d love to hear from you! What lights up Christmas where you are?
“Blessed is the season that engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love”
